Vol: Australia out of volleyball
ATHENS, Aug 23 AAP - Australia made a disappointing exit from the men's volleyball
at the Olympic Games today, going down to the Netherlands in straight sets.
The Dutch crushed Australia 25-22 25-17 25-16 and leave the Games winless.
The Australians also sustained losses to the US, Brazil, Russia and Italy.
They won two sets throughout the tournament.
Australia competed strongly in the first set today but fell away, the Dutch serving
strongly to finish off the match.
Australian middle blocker Luke Campbell said his side should have won against the Americans
and it probably hurt the team's chances of moving on in the tournament.
"Our goal was to qualify for the quarter-finals, but obviously we didn't make it," he said.
"Our participation here was very important but our team is very young and next time
we hope we will have a better performance."
Australia ended at the bottom of Pool B.
