NSW; Qantas workers stop work over random drug test plan
Around 900 employees of Qantas have stopped work in Sydney to protest about the airline'splan to introduce random drug and alcohol testing.
Ten unions and the ACTU have banded together to oppose the testing, which Qantas saysis designed to ensure the health and safety of both employees and the travelling public.
A trial of the tests will begin in Sydney by the end of this month.
The airline's staff have voted to oppose drug testing and support any staff memberwho refuses the test, or is subjected to disciplinary action as a result of the breathand urine tests.
The unions will present a petition to Qantas chief executive GEOFF DIXON on Friday.
They've lodged an appeal against the trial in the Australian Industrial Relations Commission.
Qantas workers will also hold meetings in Melbourne and Brisbane this week.
